Colletes hederae mapping project

Ivy Bee, Colletes hederae (Dr Phil Smith)

The Ivy Bee, Colletes hederae, was seen for the first time in the UK in southern England 2001. This year sightings of the species are being reported from the Sefton Coast. It is likely that the species is present at other suitable sites in the local area so keep your eyes open! BWARS - Bees Wasps and Ants Recording Society has been running a national monitoring project, tracking the progress of the species as it spreads north. If you happen to spot this please to let BWARS (and us!) know about it!

Information on how to identify this bee and how to send in your sighting are available on the BWARS Project page below. One of this species favorite plants is the Ivy and with Ivy just coming into flower, now is the perfect time to get out spotting!
